2010 Cake Show: Professional
Professional Division: High level of skill. More than 6 years decorating experience. More than 90 hours of hours of cake decorating or sugar art instruction. May be decorating for profit or working as a decorator. Open to all styles.
(There were too many entries to show to show all of them for these two categories, so the photos below are the ones I either liked, found interesting for some reason or another, or they placed in their category.)
Any non-tiered cake with a theme such as a Birthday, Anniversary, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, etc. including one tier wedding or anniversary cakes. Any sugar mediums or techniques may be used (only three entries).
Third Place for Special Occasion or Novelty One Tier
(didn’t get the title) by Marcella Rengel
Business Name: Baby Cakes by Marcy
First Place for Special Occasion or Novelty One Tier
Special Delivery by Dawn Parrott
Business Name: Iced Affairs
(more unbelievable stringwork and bridge extension work – this was even thinner than the chocolate wedding cake)
2-D or 3-D cakes and sculptures. Entries must be real cake. Minimal use of Styrofoam allowed to complete entry. Any sugar mediums may be used. Must submit 3 in-progress pictures.
Tribute to Texas Firefighters by Sylvia Wilson
“To honor the fallen and to be grateful to our brothers and sisters still fighting”
(I was very sad that this cake didn’t place, it’s another one of my favorites)
These are cakes with two or more tiers (stacked or tiered). Novelty/ special occasion cakes do not include wedding or anniversary cakes. Any sugar mediums or techniques may be used.
Crazy Shirt by Grace Goodwin
Business Name: Grace G. Cakes
First Place for Special Occasion or Novelty Tiered Cakes
A Light on a Hill by Karen Downey
(See, this is a perfect example of why I wouldn’t make a very good judge. This entry was not my first pick for this category–or even my second choice–until today when I took closer look while editing the photos. The technical skill on this cake is excellent, and it also shows a wider range of skill than the other entries in the novelty tiered cakes category. I’d love to see what she’d do with a theme that I’m interested in. In fact, I can’t wait to see Karen’s entry for next year)
Cakes with two or more tiers decorated specifically for weddings or anniversaries. Any techniques or sugar mediums may be used.
Butterflies and Flowers by Bennie McDaniel
Retro Chic Wedding Cake by Edet Okon
Business Name: Satin Slices
Any non-tiered cake with any theme decorated using only buttercream icing. No fondant, non-edible decorations or other sugar mediums will be allowed. Only two entries.
These are entries made of fondant, gumpaste, sugar molding, color flow, royal icing, etc. Displayed as an individual technique and NOT as a decoration on a cake. A combination of techniques and mediums may be used, but it must be presented alone and not as part of a cake. Once again, no cake. (Only three entries.)
