2012 Cake Show: Junior Division

Junior (7 – 12 years): One category – not divided by style. Juniors may have an adult assist with baking the cake. Each junior must ice and decorate their own entry.

Like the Childs division, this group is not judged. All entries receive a medal and the mention of what made their cake unique. Once they hit the Teen division, that changes, but at this age it’s still all in fun.

As with most of the divisions and categories, I didn’t photograph every entry. These are ones I liked or that caught my eye for some reason.

Mermaid Kingdom - work in progress

I had to include a copy of the photos that were displayed with the cake. I’m also trying not to squee like a fangirl about how adorable she is… I’m such a sucker for cakes and kids together (which reminds me, I still have to post photos of my borrowed children and their cakes after I finally get the competition photos all up).

I liked this one so much that I was sending a photo of it to all my friends before we even left the Junior section of the show.

2010 Cake Show: Juniors Division

Junior Division:  Seven to 12 years.  Not divided by style.  Juniors may have an adult assist with baking the cake.  Each junior must ice and decorate their own entry.  Like the Children’s Division, everyone in this group receives a medal.

(There were too many entries to show all of them, so the photos below are the ones I either liked or found interesting for some reason or another.)

CAKE: Junior Division

Junior Division is ages 7 to 12 years old.  Juniors may have an adult assist with baking the cake, but each junior must ice and decorate their own entry.  There were a lot of entries, but the photos below are the ones I either liked or found interesting for some reason or another.

"But then the monkeys jumped back out of the monkey barrel.
12 crazy monkeys ran right out of the monkey barrel.
11 monkeys ran back into the tree.
One monkey stayed behind and now that monkey rides a bike around with me… his name is Larry."

It's difficult to tell from the angle, but the panda heads are made out of mini-cupcakes resting on their side.  Rather clever little cupcakes.

Several of the junior cake entries were better than anything the teen division had on display. This birthday cake is, in fact, better than some of the culinary student and beginner entries.

Wow

Yes, this is a cake in the junior division.  At first glance, my reaction was wow; but a second, closer look shows that this was all molded fondant, which is very easy to use.  The main reason I included this cake is because this decorator has an amazing eye for clean and elegant design.
